James Judge blasts Castor for forcing taxpayers to foot student loan bill

James Judge, who on Tuesday night won his primary election in a landslide, says Castor and the Democrats are perpetuating a scam at the expense of the taxpayers.

TAMPA, Fla. – The Republican nominee for Congress in Florida’s 14th Congressional District says his opponent and the Democratic Party are putting yet another undue burden on the American taxpayer with their new plan to spend billions canceling student loans.

“Kathy Castor and her far-left Democrat friends who are celebrating the student debt cancelation are totally out of touch with ordinary American taxpayers,” said James Judge. “After passing a trillion dollar ‘infrastructure’ bill and the Inflation Promotion Act which hires 87,000 new IRS agents, she continues to work against the interests of the voters in the district. It’s absurd to expect them to pay down debt of other people.”

“Never in American history has this happened before,” said Judge. “We are a country built on personal responsibility, and we have never mandated that the public at large pays off the private debts of others. This is yet another example of how far to the left Democrats like Castor have moved. Just a few years ago, a plan this radical would have been inconceivable. “

But Judge also recognizes that student debt is an issue that needs to be addressed.

“I do understand that trillions of dollars in student debt, and loans that are often given to teenagers who don’t understand how those loans will affect them financially in the long-term, are a serious driving factor in why young people today are having difficulties getting ahead,” Judge said. “The whole system is a scam that enriches colleges and fails to live up to its obligations to students.”

Still, taxpayers shouldn’t be on the hook, says Judge.

“The universities who have benefitted most from these loans and raked in billions of dollars from students who have taken these loans and jacked up the cost of tuition, should take at least partial responsibility for this issue,” said Judge. “If they are churning out worthless degrees, they ought to foot the bill when their graduates can’t get jobs. We can’t simply keep perpetuating a system that puts young people in hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of debt. We need to fix the fundamental flaw in the education system, not put a Band-Aid over it at the expense of the taxpayer.”

Judge won Tuesday’s primary election by nearly double the amount of votes of his closest competitor, despite being significantly outspent.

Reducing government spending has been a staple in Judge’s campaign, as the federal government currently has nearly $31 trillion in debt and more than $171 trillion in unfunded liabilities.

Judge recently earned the recommendation of the Tampa Bay Times and has been endorsed by several high-profile local and national figures.

Those figures include Congressman Paul Gosar (R-AZ), retired Republican Congressman Ted Yoho, Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri, The Tampa Police Benevolent Association, Clearwater Mayor Frank Hibbard, the Community Patriots Tampa, Chris Chambers, a former Congressional candidate and community leader, and former SBA White House Deputy Chief Matt Becker, who previously ran for Congress against an incumbent Democrat in St. Petersburg.
